San Diego Poet Jim Moreno Announces An Ongoing Zoom Poetry Workshop: How We Say It: The Poetry of California Veterans continuing on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. PST.

San Diego, CA ―In cooperation with Poets & Writers’ goal of offering pro bono poetry classes to California groups, poet Jim Moreno will offer free online poetry classes to California Veterans. The poetry workshop titled, How We Say It Online Poetry Workshops will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, continuing on Tuesdays January 10, February 14, March 14, April 11, 2023.

These free online classes will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM for any California Veteran and also any Deported Veteran. Mr. Moreno, a Vietnam Veteran, will facilitate this poem-writing class that will include poems by veterans, film clips of poetry, poetry prompts, poetry composition, and reading of the original poems by the opportunity of writing in community. Much different than writing alone.

Participating California Veterans and Deported Veterans will have the option of being published. At the end of the six months veterans will be asked to submit one poem for publishing in the next edition of the 2024-2025 San Diego Poetry Annual’s Chapter for Veterans.

Any California Veteran is eligible for this poem-making workshop. There is no fee to attend. Deported veterans are welcome to attend. No alcohol or drugs on the day of each poetry workshop.

Jim Moreno is a teaching artist with San Diego Writers, Ink. He also taught poetry at Arts Connection San Diego where he was voted the Residency Teaching Artist of the Year for 2016-2017. Moreno is on the Advisory Board of the Poetic Medicine Institute in Palo Alto California and a Regional Editor of the San Diego Poetry Annual’s adult, Native American, and Juvenile Hall chapters. Moreno is the author of Dancing in Dissent: Poetry for Activism (Dolphin Calling Press, 2007). He’s co-editor with Mary Kowit and Joseph D. Milosch of Poems that Speak to Us: Selected Poems of Steve Kowit (Garden Oak Press, 2021). As co-editor with Joe Milosch, Jim’s third book, The Activists Poetry Anthology: Selected Poems for Good Trouble (Garden Oak Press, 2022) was published July 18, 2022.
